| The ruins of the palace of Artaxerxes I Makrocheir ("palace H") at Persepolis. This picture shows the remains: hardly anything, especially compared to the palace of Darius to the right, which is still standing. It seems that this residence was meant to mirror the older palace. In between was a courtyard. | ||
| Part of the decoration of the palace. It was originally in the building known as Palace G, but later transferred. There must have been a second sphinx, facing to the left; in between must have been the winged figure of Ahuramazda. Today, this bearded sphinx can be seen in the British Museum. | ||
| The "horns" at the terrace wall near the palace of Artaxerxes I. No
one knows the significance of these. Just decoration?
