The splendid ancient sea resort now known as Dar Buc Ammera can be found three kilometer east of modern Zliten, which in turn is east of the ruins of Lepcis Magna. The villa best known for its splendid mosaics, which today are on display in the Archaeological Museum in Tripoli.

Round Mosaic
Probably the finest of these is the round mosaic, which contains all kinds of birds in a splendid tree. Realism is not too great, however: there are also some mythological aquatic animals and even fish in this tree.
A detail: a sea horse with wings. The individual stones are extremely fine (opus vermiculatum). The decision to add sea animals to the tree is less strange than it may appear: the sea was built close to the shore. This mosaic was probably made in the late first century, when the villa was built.
Fish and shells.

And two other birds.
