  • After 95, the brothers Demetrius and Philip were rulers of one of the remains of the Seleucid Empire: a kingdom with Damascus as its capital.
  • 88: The two kings start to quarrel.
  • 87: Demetrius is captured by the Parthian king Mithradates III; as king, he is succeeded by his younger brother Antiochus XII Dionysus.
  • Antiochus and his brother Philip are hostile to each other.
  • In 84, Antiochus is defeated and killed by the Nabataean Arabs, who take Damascus.
