Ariarathes I (405-322): ruler of Cappadocia.

331: fights for the last Persian king, Darius III Codomannus, against Alexander at Gaugamela
330: seizes Cappadocia, which he defends against the local Macedonian commander Antigonus the One-Eyed
323: death of Alexander
322: Alexander's main successor Perdiccas defeats and captures Ariarathes, and has him executed (Arrian, Events after Alexander)

Ariarathes was not succeeded as leader of independent Cappadocia, but his brother Orophernes' son Ariarathes II could restore autonomy after the battle of Ipsus (301) and founded a dynasty.
