Duiven - Loowaard: site of a Roman fort along the Rhine limes.

The Roman fort near Duiven-Loowaard was situated near the ancient bifurcation of the Rhine and Waal. Because these rivers have changed their course several times, the fort can no longer be traced. Stray finds, however, suggest the presence of Roman troops after c.30 CE or a bit later. The youngest artifacts are from the fourth century, but it is not clear whether the occupation was continuous. Frankish finds suggest that this fort survived into the Early Middle Ages.
