Photos of the Netherlands

Molen De Gooyer Amsterdam. Photo Jona Lendering.
On this page, I will collect some photos of Amsterdam and the Netherlands. Some items will be of historical interest, others just show something about daily life in a Dutch city. You can find many photos of the oldest phase of Dutch history here.

The picture to left is windmill "De Gooyer" in Amsterdam, a flourmill that was built in 1828 on the foundations of a mill that was already in existence before 1572. It is no longer in use. The mill is one of the symbols of Holland, but that is not why I chose this picture for this page.

If you look carefully, you can see that there is a Spanish restaurant near the mill (the sign reads tapas). The Netherlands are a small country, so it is inevitable that there are foreign influences. At the same time, old traditions erode and symbols are becoming increasingly irrelevant. These are interesting times.
