Mérida: Museo Nacional de Arte Romano

Augusta Emerita: Roman city in western Spain, modern Mérida, capital of the province of Lusitania.

This silver disk shows, almost certainly, the emperor Theodosius I (r.379-395) and his sons Honorius (r.393-423) and Arcadius (r.383-408). It has a diameter of 74 centimeter and weighs almost 15 kilo. The Museo Nacional de Arte Romana has a copy; the original, which was found in Badajoz, is now in Madrid's Real Academia de la Historia.
