| Clivus Scauri: street on the Roman hill Caelius.
The street from the church of SS. Giovanni e Paolo on the Caelian hill is connected to the Palatine through the Clivus Scauri. To support the northern street front -which was later included in the medieval church- seven arches were built. The most western one dates back to the third century CE. Access to the Clivus Scauri was (and is) obtained through the Arch of Dolabella. |
