Thessaloniki, Museum of Byzantine Culture

Q3563158

Thessaloniki´s Museum of Byzantine culture, which is close to the Archaeological Museum, covers Late Antiquity, including trade and crafts, and religious art of the Middle Ages and more recent times. It was certainly interesting to see objects from Philippi and the oldest building phases of the churches of Thessaloniki, but the part I liked best is the medieval art. You will see nice not only icons of saints, but also old tomb paintings, and the seals of men like the patriarch Photius. The beauty of Byzantine art always strikes me as sublime – and I am always looking for words to express why I enjoy it so much.
