Pythia
Pythia: title of the priestess of Apollo in Delphi.
The pythia was the oracular priestess in the great sanctuary of Apollo in Delphi. During a seance, she would be in some kind of trance and would utter incomprehensible sounds, which were converted into hexameters by the priests. Selected by lot and serving the god for all of her life, the pythia lived in a house within the temple's enclosure.
