Matar

Gordium has a nice museum. On this page, you can see several photos; some of them are from the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations in Ankara.

To the right the goddess Matar (Cybele), venerated in nearby Pessinus. She usually holds a cup in one hand and a bird (a falcon or a hawk?) in the other hand. Compare the headless statue of the same goddess below, on which two additonal birds can be recognized.
