Legio III Flavia Salutis
Legio III Flavia Salutis: one of the legions of the later Roman empire. Its name means "the Flavian legion of salvation", a remarkable, almost religious surname.
This legion is nothing but a name to us. It belongs to a series that also included I Flavia Pacis and II Flavia Virtutis. The three legions were probably formed by the emperor Constantius II (337-361) and fought in the eastern half of the Roman empire.
The legion served in Africa. It is a remarkable thought that the father of the church Augustine must have known the soldiers of this unit with its almost religious surname.
