- After the battle of Ipsus (301), Ariarathes II is recognized by Seleucus I Nicator as semi-independent ruler of Cappadocia
- 282 Death of Seleucus; he is succeeded by Antiochus I Soter, who has to defend the Seleucid Empire against an attack by the Ptolemaic king Ptolemy II Philadelphus
- c.280: Together with Orontes III of Armenia, Ariarathes defeats Antiochus' general Amyntas. Beginning of the independence of Cappadocia
