Legio II Armeniaca

Legio II Armeniaca: one of the legions of the later Roman empire. Its name means "the Armenian legion".

This legion is mentioned in the late-antique text known as Notitia Dignitatum. It must first have been the garrison of one of the two provinces of Armenia, but later became part of the field army. This was a more important position.

Hardly anything is known about this unit, but inscriptions prove that it built a camp at Satala. In 360, it served, together with II Parthica and II Flavia, as garrison of Bezabde (modern Cizre) on the Tigris, but was unable to prevent its capture by the Persians.
