Villa Selene, Baths

Villa Selene: Roman villa on the Mediterranean shore, not far from Lepcis Magna.

Bathhouse

To to the southeast of the Villa Selene, and connected to it by a corridor, was the bathhouse. It had an unusual layout: all rooms were situated around a central room, which appears to have been the frigidarium, or cold water bath. The mosaic on the floor has all kinds of aquatic motifs. Again, the building was lavishly decorated: a mosaic of two boxers, capitals made of stucco, and black-and-white drawings of wrestlers.

The first photo shows the domed bathhouse and, to the right, the esplanade.
